Purl & Weft
Meet the Maker
Purl and Weft is a mother/daughter team. Sheila, (Mom) is a weaver, and Sal is a talented knitter. We both discovered weaving quite by accident, we dove into the craft with enthusiasm. Sal quickly realized weaving was too tedious and slow, and that knitting was the way to go, discovering great talent along the way. Sheila did not take to knitting, finding it too tedious and slow, but felt the need to weave on a daily basis. So much so, that I always take a small loom, sometimes two, when I travel away from home, and just might find a minute or two to weave. Sal can frequently be found in the window seat, listening to a podcast or music while knitting fabulous things!
We have a website where you can find more items, and details about the weaving process, you can find that here.
How it’s Made
These towels were woven on a four shaft Gilmore loom, in my home in the PNW. This was a batch of 14 towels, using 10, 504 yards of yarn, each yard handled me one at a time! Each towel, from beginning to end, takes roughly 7 hours to make.
