About this Product

He's Glad to See Her!

8X10 inch painting on stretched canvas

Edges are painted black, wire hanger is mounted to the back, ready to hang, does not come with frame

Have you ever been alone in the forest when you felt eyes watching you and the hair prickles up on the back of your neck? You know you're not alone but you wonder what is out there!??? In this painting, you can't really tell what it is that out there, you just know you're being watched and maybe what is watching you, does not have good intentions!

That is what I was thinking as I worked my way through the layers of this painting. I remembered a time when my husband and I were out cutting wood late at night. We both felt the presence of "something" and it had the feeling of danger. We quickly got to the truck and decided we had enough wood for that day!

In this painting, the woman and the horse are glad to see each other for the company of another being is comforting. I think they hurried home after they met up.

DonnaRidgwayArt

Donna Ridgway grew up in Montana near a little town called Dupuyer. Her life was filled with animals and caring for the land.

She and her husband, Robert are now retired and spend their time camping, four wheeling, taking photos of wildlife, creating art and caring for their home. Her studio is in the back yard, and she spends a lot of time there, just creating art and letting ideas come to life.

Donna is a member of the Western Heritage Artists and participates in their annual show at Western Art Week in Great Falls, Montana. You can see her there at the Heritage Inn, usually in room 105. She's also a member of Montana Made products, and Cowgirl Artists of America.

More of her original paintings can be seen at Equis Art Gallery in Red Hook, New York. Choteau Arts in Choteau, Montana. Paris Gibson Museum, in Great Falls, Montana

She's a self taught artist who's drawn and painted her entire life.

How it’s Made

When I take a new canvas down from the shelf, I don't waste time staring at it wondering what to place there. I get out some paint and I start making marks of color. I might scratch up through the colors, let them dry, add some more colors, let that dry, then add patterns and shapes in charcoal and just keep it up until a story seems to be hiding in those depths. It's an intuitive process and I lose myself in it. I never know what's going to happen next, I don't have a plan in mind, I just find colors and shapes I love. Once the story reveals itself, I add the final elements which are usually horses, dogs, the woman or wild animals and ancient symbols.

I feel the stories come from deep inside myself, from years of living close to horses and the prairie.
