About this Product
Horse hair pottery is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful of the low-fired ceramics. This vase is a one of a kind round vase made with horse hair and feathers. The yellow coloring comes from a spritz of ferric chloride at just the right temperature. Once the vase is cool enough to touch, it is cleaned and polished to make it look gorgeous! (and to provide UV protection)
Although this vase is NOT watertight, it would make a beautiful addition all by itself, or with "non-living" flowers in it. (You have to get your own flowers, flowers are not included in the purchase of this vase)
The vase is 5" tall and 6" diameter.

kiln fire clay
How it’s Made
This vase is wheel thrown using a high grog clay that can handle the thermal shock of raku firing. During the trimming process, it was burnished and Terra sigillata was applied to give it that special shine. When it was pulled out of the Raku kiln, horsehair and feathers were applied. Midway through the cooling process, ferric chloride (yes, I was wearing my mask and goggles) fumes were sprayed on to give the vase a yellow(ish) color tone.
