Meet the Maker
My name is Cheryl, and I am a watercolor artist. l'm grateful that I grew up in a household full of talented artists and musicians who heavily influenced my own artistic journey. My dad, an amazing pianist, played in a band with my trumpeter grandfather during my childhood. My mom owned and ran a home-based ceramic studio, which she has since retired, and my brother was an amazing street artist growing up and still a popular DJ in both Massachusetts and New York City. I credit my family for my passion in art being fueled at an early age. While attending school, my teachers recognized my talent and potential and had me skip study class to double up on art classes.
While in high school, I applied for and was accepted into the Massachusetts College of Art program for high school students looking to pursue a career in art. During my senior year, I won a scholarship to attend a commercial art program in Worcester. I completed the program, and after a brief break from school, returned to earn my Associates Degree in Graphic Design, a career in which I've devoted over 20 years.
Throughout the years, I've dabbled in many different art mediums, but my heart and passion lie with watercolor. I found I had a true passion and natural talent for it, and have committed myself to learning all I can about this wonderful art form. When asked whose works inspired me the most, I cite Norman Rockwell, Mary Whyte, Andy Smith and James Gurney as influences.
How it’s Made
I use professional grade watercolors such as Daniel Smith and Arches cold press watercolor paper.
