About this Product
Horse Play
16X16 inch acrylic painting on stretched canvas which is aprox 1/2 inch thick. Sides are painted black, it's ready to hang.
Have you sat and watched animals play? Or gone out and played with them? Animals love to play! Growing up we had a dog named Lad, most of the time we called him Laddie. He was a black lab-German Shepard cross. He was ferocious and fun when it came to playing games.
Sometimes I'd go to the field to catch my horse and Lad would be out there with the horses. My horse was young enough that he liked to play also. That dog and that horse were crazy together! Laddie would make a great leap for Lucky's nose. My heart would be in my throat watching those sharp teeth go for that soft nose! Lucky would rear and strike out with his hooves, or turn and kick up his heels at the dog. I never once saw either one of them connect with the other, they were purposefully playing.
Once I realized that, I stopped worrying and just enjoyed the wild scenes they created. As I was creating this painting, working my way through the many layers of paint, this memory of those two animals playing came into my mind and came to life here on the canvas.
For many years, my paintings were what I call copies of my photographs. We'd go out with the cameras, take photos of elk, deer, cattle, horses etc....then I'd create a painting by copying what I saw in the photo. I'd very carefully draw the animal into the scene and paint what I saw.
I always felt this strange desire to create something more. Something that came straight out of my heart and mind, something that did not exist before. Gradually, over the years, these paintings came about. I think of them as story paintings, stories that come from my own life growing up with the horses and other animals.
This painting you see here is number 102 of the story paintings!
I can accept a return if you are unhappy with your painting so long as it is returned to me within 7 days, in it's original condition as it left my studio. I ship USPS, and use recycled materials for shipping whenever I can. Your painting will be sandwiched between layers of cardboard.

How it’s Made
I'm an artist, my paintings are usually on stretched canvas, with the sides painted black, and hanging wire attached. I use artist grade materials which are archival. Sometimes I might add collage, or copper wires. This painting does not have either.
I add many layers to my paintings, and as the layers progress the story comes about. The paintings are rich with color and texture.
Shop Policies
I create fine art paintings that are made from artist grade materials. I love Golden and Liquitex paints. My paintings are mostly on stretched canvas, sometimes on wooden panels.
Other items I make might not be from archival materials, such as faces made from toilet paper rolls! But the products are made with care and if treated as art, they will last a very long time.
I do not do commissioned work.
