I’m Heidi Hancock and I’m an artist working in re-imagined denim jackets.  My love for denim started at the tender age of 15 when I took inspiration from album art and painted that onto the back of denim jackets for my friends. I love the eternal nature of the denim jacket because of its versatility. You can dress it up or down and in many genres - from motorcycle clubs to metal heads, to high fashion or to punk. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are in life – there is a denim jacket for you that reflects your personal identity; an irrefutable statement of you.

The first Jack’t was inspired by a t-shirt that I loved in the 90’s. Old and full of holes, I’d had (and worn) “ThiS GirL" for going on 30 years. When it was clear it wouldn’t survive another wash, I thrifted a denim jacket, took apart the t-shirt to preserve the still usable design elements, and reimagined my first Jack’t. Now I hope to love “ThiS GirL” for another 30 years!

I specifically use re-claimed denim and found textiles for eco-sustainability. Treasure hunting jackets and design elements in unusual places gives me unending inspiration. I love coming across something that speaks to me, saving it from a long slow death in an obscure landfill somewhere, and creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Jackt’s have 2-6 different textiles that are combined with denim into one new original work.

My hope for my original Jack’t UP creations is for you to wear and cherish them for many, many years. The combination of iconic imagery and gorgeous textiles hint at the humor and whimsy of the wearer. Built for durability and with love, my heart sings knowing Jack’ts are out in the world, making waves, and starting conversations!
