The Twisted Turnip
Address
My name is Andra. I am a tiny houser. I built a tiny home in my rented front yard over the course of 2020 to 2021. I learned wiring, plumbing, flooring, insulation, you name it. My teenage daughter loved it so much that we started building one for her, also. In 2022 I was able to purchase a quiet wooded lot and had our future homes moved to our new property. It took time to clear trees for a septic, wait for permits, get a well, water lines and electricity. In April 2024 we were finally able to move in.
I'm also a tiny farmer. Before we even moved to our new property I started working on a food forest. It's a permaculture garden in the woods. It's been a lot of work but we now have several garden beds, elderberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. We have identified many wild edible plants and love learning about these free healthy foods. We've found many useful trees and bushes in the woods. This year we discovered persimmon, sassafras, hickory, autumn olive, sugar berry, spice bush and passionfruit to name a few. We are raising rabbits, backyard chickens and a small flock of quail.
Creating is my passion. When I'm not working on the house or working outside, I'm usually working on crafts or embroidery. It gives me the chance to be creative in a different way. I'm a busy bee, not one to sit still. Crafts give me time to unwind. I love creating and I love learning. Making felt toys is a lot like being a kid again! I'm known to send pictures of new items to friends just to ask silly questions like, "Do you like my pickles?" I love to make people laugh and smile. Everything new is just the cutest thing ever to me and I adore each project. I love the challenge of trying to make things fit together like puzzle pieces. I love bringing ordinary things to life.
When I donated these toys to our local Pre School, I was amazed at how the kids responded. The simplest toy brought so many ideas and hours of imaginative play. The kids would rather pretend to cook than watch their afternoon movie. Then, I knew I was on to something. I've seen many wonderful things here and I look forward to becoming a part of the goimagine community. Thank you for stopping by to read my ramblings. I truly hope you have the Best Day Ever!
