Jessica Devin, a Chicago based self-taught embroidery artist, has been honing her stitching skills since 2019. After a car accident cut her ballet career short, she pursued her love of fine art. Yet, after 2 years in art school, she left due to feelings of inferiority and inadequacy. She accidentally fell into embroidery, and found her passion, it was love at first stitch. Through this medium she gained self confidence in her artwork and skill.

Although she practices many forms of surface embroidery, she specializes in a technique know as Silk Shading . She is passionate about the natural world, and is best known for stitching birds, but is currently working on a collection of fairies and mermaids. Her work has a painterly feel to it, and each piece uses at least 60 different colors of thread and takes around 60 hours to complete. She strives to capture minute details, and is enamored with the effects of light and shadow. Her fabric of choice is a Linen or Silk Dupioni, and she adores working with filament silk thread.
She, and her work, have been featured in publications, such as Stitch Magazine, has been featured by the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, as well as various online blogs, and magazines.
