Hi! I'm Ruth.

A young mom, wife, entrepreneur, and Jesus lover tucked back into a quiet corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

As a child, my mom gave me free reign of her sewing machines. Through many broken needles, jammed threads, and many hours with a seam ripper, she quietly passed on her love of sewing to me. I made my first dress all by myself by the time I was 12.

I quickly realized that I did not enjoy fooling with the "extras" on garments. They simply took too much time. I preferred minimal and basic styles in the first place. However, I did find it incredibly fulfilling to find uses for the small fabric scraps that were often thrown away. There was a sense of accomplishment to watch a quilt come together under my needle- all from something that otherwise would have been wasted.

Fast forward until now, I've been discovering the detriments fast fashion has brought to our world. Not only has it been hard on the earth, but it's been a slave master to so many people.

The more I started researching and the more I learned, the more I wanted to help break this dreaded cycle.

This inspired me to find ways to upcycle and repurpose as much as I could. I discovered that using quality products over and over was so much better then buying cheap items that wore out after a few months of use. Learning to reduce waste as well as being content with the items I have, was starting to open up a new way of living.

Finding natural fiber fabrics was a part of this journey that I did not see coming. I quickly saw the benefits and the lack of availability within the natural fiber world.

Realizing I could use the talent God (and my mom!) had blessed me with, to help support my family and benefit the world around me, Homespun by Ruth was born.

January 1, 2021 was our first official opening day. I was simply blown away with the interest and support that showed up on my Facebook page! That support has continued to this day, and I'm forever grateful!

Come join me on this journey or reusing, repurposing, and creating a more sustainable future.
