Welcome! I'm Anna, a Brazilian transplant putting down roots in Nashville, TN. My journey into jewelry-making began alongside my mother, the owner of a small jewelry shop during my upbringing. Crafting jewelry has been a hobby since my teenage years, and after my mother's passing in 2017, transforming this hobby into a small business became a way to feel her presence.
My creative process is inspired by Mother Nature, and I am dedicated to respecting the environment. To uphold this commitment, I use materials that align with one or more of these values: fair trade, ethical, sustainable, recycled, salvaged, repurposed, or sourced from small local businesses. All recycled, salvaged and repurposed materials are carefully selected, ensuring they are in impeccable condition, resembling new items.
The name 'Ela' means 'she' in Portuguese, my native language, and it’s my tribute to all the important women in my life, especially my mother, sister, and daughter. Ela's mission is to celebrate and uplift women through creativity and collaboration. How it’s Made
Golden Grass (Syngonanthus nitens) is a plant whose stem has a metallic shine and a natural golden hue that resembles a gold wire. It is native to Brazil, where the local population learned to weave this unique fiber to produce utilitarian objects, jewelry and accessories from the Xerente tribe that passed through the region in the 1930's. A golden nylon thread or Buriti silk (also a natural fiber from the Buriti palm tree leaves) is used to bind the grass together around a thin, flexible wire. Golden grass is a sustainable and fair trade product, regulated by a strong union of local artisans, with the help of governamental and non-profit institutions. I purchase the wrapped grass already shaped as a bracelet directly from the local artisans and add the 18k gold plated clasp and chain.
Golden grass does not contain nor require any type of chemicals or preservatives to maintain its shine. It is lightweight and water resistant. If it gets wet, you simply let it air dry. Obs.: Water can discolor the gold plated clasp and chain.
