Intarsia is a wood art form where pictures or figures are made as a wood mosaic. Each piece is cut by hand of wood that makes the picture. There are no dyes used, just natural wood colors. Intarsia goes back to medieval times with a heyday in the Italian Renaissance. With a resergence in modern times intarsia involves the cutting and shaping needed to make the perspective correct and to achieve a 3-D realistic look. This heart intarsia has within it the yin and yang symbol. It is about 8 1/2” wide and has a hanger on the back.

How it’s Made
Intarsia is a time intensive art form. All parts are hand cut and fitted into the picture. After that parts are carefully shaped for a realistic look and are assembled and glued. After a back is added the piece is finished with a clear coat. All woods are their natural colors with no dyes or colors added.
