Meet the Maker

I am Yuki, the owner and the creator of DASH OF JAPAN.

I was born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan. In 2019, I moved with my family to Florida.

At a young age, I was inspired by my mother’s natural crafting abilities and since, have been fascinated by various hand-crafted arts and styles. I have been captivated by Mizuhiki, a traditional Japanese art of knotting paper cords.

Each pieces are meticulously handcrafted, with a color scheme and design from a unique perspective inherent to Japanese sensibilities.

How it’s Made

Handwoven with Mizuhiki - Japanese traditional paper cord

Mizuhiki is a Japanese traditional decorative art form made of paper, often tied into knots around gifts for various occasions.

The cord is meticulously crafted from rice paper, tightly wound, starched, and then adorned with colored fabric or plastic.

The exact origins of Mizuhiki remain unclear, yet historical records suggest its existence as far back as 607 AD.

How to care Mizuhiki Jewelry

Avoid friction and contact with liquids of any kind (water, perfumes, creams, etc.)

Mizuhiki is not water-resistant, however if it happens to get wet, gently pat it dry with a dry towel and let it dry in the shade so it does not lose its shape.
