The Chunky Purl Ridge Beanie is a handsome, unisex hat that’s quick and easy to make. It’s a super hat for last-minute gifting or movie-night knitting.
The highly textured beanie is worked in the round from the bottom up. The handsome twisted ribbing is framed by a purl edging and the first purl stripe round.

To fit head circumferences of
21 (22, 23, 24) in/
53 (56, 58, 61) cm
YARN
NOTE: To knit this hat, you may also use a yarn mix – such as two strands of worsted-weight yarn held together – if the yarn mix meets gauge. Also, I recommend a plied yarn. When worked in the round, 1x1 ribbing can bias with single-ply (roving style) yarns.

The Chunky Guy Beanie, pictured here, is my best-selling pattern, with hundreds sold to makers from around the world. The pattern exemplifies what I love most about crochet and knitting: An easy pattern can produce a classic look as well as an enjoyable crafting experience.
Almost all of my patterns use simple, basic stitches. I occasionally venture into intermediate territory -- but only if the end result is worth the extra effort.
One of my favorite activities is to round up a few balls of yarn and experiment with stitches and shapes and color combinations. It's an adventure to find out what kind of hat the yarn wants to be. A sassy, lacy Juliet cap for summer? A rugged, ribbed topper for frigid days? A snazzy fedora that evokes vintage glamour?
I really enjoy doing my small part in bringing warmth and beauty into the world, one hat at a time. My wish is that you enjoy making/wearing/gifting hats from my patterns as much as I enjoyed creating them!
