Meet the Maker
Hello and welcome! I’m Evelyn Goldman (she/her), the artist behind Romance and Mishegoss.
My art is all about storytelling, tradition, and joy. I create papercut art that weaves together Jewish heritage, personal meaning, and communal celebration. Every design starts with a hand-drawn sketch, which I digitize and cut with a machine—but the magic really happens in the finishing touches I do by hand. I use eco-friendly, archival materials to make art that is both rooted in tradition and alive in the present.
You can also find my pieces at the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in New Orleans.

How it’s Made
This piece began as a playful tribute to the Jewish deli—a staple of Ashkenazi culture, specifically the Lower East Side of New York City. Designed in my home studio, the original pickle jar illustration was adapted into a papercut using precision machine cutting and hand finishing for clean, crisp lines. Crafted from archival-quality cardstock, each cut is made with humor, history, and a whole lot of love for Jewish food and tradition.
