Mjölnir, hammer of Thor. Forged by the dwarven brothers Brokkr and Sindri.When I first started blacksmithing, I did it outdoors, in the elements. I would always check the weather report, as fire and rain don't mix. But inevitably, I would find myself, on occasion, rushing to get something done before the storm rolled in. As the lightning would flash, and the thunder boom, I remembered the norse mythology I read as a child. The sparks were lightning, and the sound thunder. Mighty Thor was beating his anvil!
So I took a piece of a billet that I had made for a knife, and made my first Mjölnir. I wore it for a while, but it didn't feel right. Couldn't put my finger on why, but then it hit me. The weapon of the thunder god is not some dainty charm. It should be big, bold, thunderous!
This hand forged Mjölnir is approximately 3 1/2 inches tall, 2 inches wide and weighs 2 1/2 ounces. Of course, as this is a handmade item each will vary slightly. It is a bold statement for a bold soul. Forged by me for a kindred spirit.
I'm not a magical dwarf, but I am on the short side.
