One Cozy Hen
Meet the Maker
Hello. My name is Cher and I'm a leatherworker and bird rescuer. I dabble in other crafts, which may show up here and there in my shop too, but my main love is leather.
I've been doing it for over 20 years now. My father did leather crafts with kids in scouts for many years. When he passed I was gifted all of his leatherworking stuff since I was already working with leather at the time. I've used a lot of his tools to make the items in my shop. I like knowing that he used them to make people happy and now I can do the same.
I specialize in tooling and painting, so I work with mostly vegetable tanned leather. I love bringing an image to life on leather. It's a long process but the results are gorgeous, and the final product can last a lifetime. At this time I do not have a vegan leather option. I have looked into plant based faux leather for those who don't like to use animal products, but I haven't found one yet that doesn't use plastic for bonding. There is also no alternative to tooling leather at this point. In the future if I find a plastic free faux leather I will start offering vegan leather options.
My other passion in life is birds. I have many rescue birds in my care. My favorites are my crossbeak chickens. I currently have a rooster and two hens with plans to take in one more hen this year. Crossbeak chickens require hand feeding and are more fragile than normal chickens. I greatly enjoy caring for them. My goal with my shop is to be able to afford all their medical needs through my profits. If you want to know more about my birds and follow their journeys you can find me on Instagram and Facebook. I try to post daily.
How it’s Made
I cut the pouch out of leather and hand sew it together. Then I punch holes and thread the drawstring. I add beads to the ends before knotting.
