Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
This dish starts as a slab of stoneware clay, hand-shaped into a gentle bowl form. The Shih Tzu image is applied using a ceramic transfer method, capturing every furry detail. The background is hand-painted with underglaze lemons and deep blue leaves for a fresh, cheerful look. After bisque firing, a clear glaze is added to seal the design, followed by a high-fire glaze firing at 2300°F. Each one is made with love and a little bit of wag.
