About this Product

Maribelle du Beak!

Meet Maribelle du Beak, queen of Carnival plumage! This needle-felted parrot sits proudly on her perch, decked in a jewel-toned purple mask, trimmed in green feathers and sparkle, ready to take flight into the heart of Mardi Gras. A celebration of joy, rhythm, and unapologetic flair, Maribelle brings festival fever wherever she goes. Handcrafted with love, vibrant wool and a sense of humor, Maribelle is proof that festival season isn’t just a celebration—it’s a state of mind.

She’s not just going to Mardi Gras—she’s the bird who planned the after party, picked out everyone’s outfits, and still managed to steal the show. She stands 14" tall (including her mask feathers) and almost 6" across on her personal stand made of wood. She comes with her mask but please advise if you want it permanently attached or separated from her.

Note: This decorative item is intended for display only and is not a toy. Due to the nature of needle felting, the figures may distort if handled roughly.

Parrot is completely handmade and unrepeatable. If Maribelle is no longer available, a similar custom-made piece will be crafted just for you. All pieces are uniquely handmade so variations in color and details will occur, adding to its one-of-a-kind charm.

Meet the Maker

Welcome to Good Feathers in Fiber! I’m so glad you’ve stopped by to explore my whimsical world of woolen creations. I’m a needle felting artist with a passion for blending fantasy and reality, creating one-of-a-kind sculptures that spark imagination and joy. From thoughtful birds with stories to tell, to sweet mice enjoying garden tea parties, each piece I create is brimming with personality and handcrafted care.

I call my style "realistic fantasy"—a mix of intricate details and a touch of magic. I often incorporate sparkles, natural elements, and repurposed trinkets, ensuring every creation is truly unique. Alongside my playful characters, I also craft more lifelike animal sculptures and seasonal decorations, all with the same attention to detail.

Before I fell in love with felting, I ran a successful dance school for 39 years, where creativity was my everyday companion—whether through choreography, costume design, or set creation. Now in retirement, I’ve channeled that same creative energy into the art of needle felting, and it’s been an incredible journey bringing these woolen friends to life.

Whether you’re searching for a special gift or a little bit of magic for your own home, I hope you’ll find something here that makes you smile. Thank you for visiting—I’m thrilled to share this part of my world with you!

How it’s Made

I lovingly handcraft each little creature aiming to blend lifelike detail with a playful twist. Imagine them as realistic animals with just a touch of mischief! Most start with a tiny wire armature as their skeleton, which I then carefully wrap in wool, sculpting and shaping them through needle felting until they come to life, with soft, woolly "feathers" to complete the look. The wool I use is sourced from sheep grazing on farms across America, England, and Canada, adding a touch of international flair to each piece. Tiny beaks and hooves are either sculpted from clay and hand-painted or felted from wool, finished with a delicate beeswax coating. While these felted sculptures are crafted with joy and meant to bring smiles, they’re intended for display only—best kept out of the reach of curious little hands and paws.
