About this Product

Discover the charm of the Medium Blue Jelly Roll Race Quilt, a handmade modern patchwork lap quilt measuring 52x64 inches, ideal for both warmth and decoration. This quilt features a striking striped design crafted from multiple 2 ½" strips of 100% cotton blue fabrics, sewn together in the distinctive jelly roll race pattern.

Expertly crafted, the quilt is machine-pieced and professionally quilted on a longarm machine using cornflower blue thread in an elegant arc design. The backing is a single wide piece of 100% cotton fabric with a soothing medium blue swirl pattern, complemented by an 80/20 cotton-poly batting for added comfort. The double-fold binding is machine-stitched to ensure lasting durability.

Made in a smoke-free home, this quilt has been pre-shrunk and washed with “All Free and Clear” detergent to preserve the vibrant colors and achieve a beautiful, crinkled texture. It is easy to care for—simply machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and tumble dry on low heat or line dry.

This quilt showcases a variety of blue fabrics racing across in the jelly roll race pattern. This unique technique involves sewing 40-42 pieces of fabric end to end, creating a continuous 1600-inch strip that is then folded and sewn repeatedly, evoking the sense of a race as the sewing machine hums along.

The quilt's array of blue fabrics, repurposed from previous projects, makes it an eco-friendly choice. Perfect for anyone who loves the calming and versatile shades of blue, this quilt is ideal for snuggling on a cool night or adding a touch of cozy elegance to your living room decor.

Ready to enhance your home with its cool tones and handcrafted beauty, the Medium Blue Jelly Roll Race Quilt is a delightful addition to any space, whether draped over a chair, couch, or at the end of your bed.

Meet the Maker

Hello, my name is Amanda, and I’m delighted you stopped by my profile! I’m a proud mother of three and a grandmother to six (and counting!). With a bachelor’s degree in architectural design technology, I bring my passion for design into a variety of crafts. Inspired by my mother’s advice to try everything at least once, I’ve immersed myself in the world of creativity. I’ve been crocheting since 1978, beading since 2008, and quilting since 2011, always keeping myself and the children in my life busy with endless crafty projects. My current quilting adventure has led me to explore the captivating jelly roll quilt design. With many of my quilt designs I revel in experimenting with new techniques, color combinations, and piece arrangements, discovering fresh and exciting looks along the way. Along with several family members we create the items in this shop. Together we are the Crafthouse Quilters.

How it’s Made

Our quilts stand apart from mass-produced competitors because of the meticulous process and care that goes into each handmade piece. Every jelly roll race quilt takes approximately 10 hours to complete, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship involved.

The journey begins with selecting the perfect fabrics from my leftover stash, which are then ironed and precisely cut into 2 1/2 inch strips. Once I have 40 strips, I trim the selvage and carefully lay them out in an aesthetically pleasing order. The strips are sewn together in a unique jelly roll race style, creating a continuous 1600-inch strip that is then folded, sewn, and cut repeatedly to form the quilt top.

This quilt top is then combined with the batting and backing to form the quilt sandwich, which is quilted on a longarm machine. The final touch is the binding, which finishes the edges and ensures durability.

Beyond crafting the quilt, I also handle the behind-the-scenes work, including photographing, listing, and marketing. Although my photos may not be professional, each one improves as I continue to learn and grow as a quilter.

By highlighting this intricate process, it's clear that our quilts are truly handmade with love and dedication, offering a unique and personal touch that manufactured products simply cannot match.

I did my first quilt in 1989. I had a difficult time quilting with 3 toddlers, so I put the quilting away until 2011.
