Meet the Maker
I’m Amanda, and I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who took a break from my 15 year career so I could homeschool my children. I love making dolls and stuffies for kids to enjoy! I grew up by the ocean, and have always loved anything relating to the sea, so I mainly focus on mermaid dolls.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Luke 18:16 “Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’”
I believe every child should be given the opportunity to know the love Jesus has for them. Giving a doll, or stuffed animal to a child can be an opportunity for the gift giver to share the Good News, that although you are showing your love with a gift the child can cherish, Jesus gave a much greater gift.
How it’s Made
I made my own patterns for this mermaid doll, and use the unique fabrics that I find to sew it on my small Singer sewing machine, while some steps are sewn by hand. After sewing the tail and upper body, I stuff them and add a small sewn baggy of weighted beads to the bottom of the body half before closing it up. Then I sew it to the tail. After adding the details and drawing the face on, I hand sew the yarn hair on, which is quite time consuming since each strand of yarn is sewn on individually. But I feel that it’s all worth it to make a child smile and have a beautiful doll to pretend with.
