I’m a big lover of snow and winter. I grew up in South Carolina, where snow was a fictional idea instead of a reality. Our winters consisted of gray days, dead plants and a biting cold that was just low enough a temperature to have to wear a jacket, but not quite cold enough to turn the persistent rain to snow. How I longed for the snow to fall in the winter time and coat the rolling hills with its frosty goodness.
After moving to California I became ecstatic in winters because the great mountains always coated themselves in snow. When the snow falls I make haste to the mountains for hiking, snowman-building, and snowball fights. This painting takes you to a secret trail deep in the mountains, the sun blazing through the clouds and illuminating the snow-hushed landscape with gold and silver light. The only sound being the rushing river that winds it’s way through the rugged landscape.
This painting was created on a 1.5” thick canvas with the painting continuing around the edges. It arrives unframed, ready to hang. It was created using only a handful of colors: aluminum, gold, white, copper, pink and shimmering mica flakes.
