About this Product
The Alden Side Table is inspired by the intersecting shapes of the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio in Midland, MI. I was drawn to the home's exterior shapes that intersect at unexpected angles, and the Alden table is my homage to this talented designer's work. This modern, minimal side table is the perfect addition beside your bed - there’s room up top for your alarm clock and a small lamp while it holds your books and magazines below. Likewise, it’s right at home next to your couch or chair in the living room to hold your cup of tea and all those books and magazines you’ve been meaning to get to.
Each one is handmade in my Leonard, MI studio. I start out with 13 layers of sustainably-harvested wood that I glue, layer, mold, trim, sand and finish by hand, so each one is impeccably made and completely unique. The curved plywood construction creates a stronger material than solid wood, so it can have a clean, minimal aesthetic. Natural rubber feet keep it from sliding + protect your floor from scratches. The matte, non-toxic, all natural oil finish creates a rich, natural look that’s durable and is water- and stain-resistant. It’s applied by hand to ensure complete coverage, optimal thickness and a hand-rubbed lustre that holds for many years to come, so your only worry is finding the time to read that stack of books.

Ciseal
Meet the Maker
Ciseal was inspired by the Midcentury Modern architecture and design that’s so prevalent in and around Detroit. The thoughtful, functional blend of nature and the modern, clean lines of these buildings influenced me to create my own designs using the natural material and modern method of woodlayering.
Ciseal began in 2013 with a few layers of wood veneer, a bottle of wood glue, a handmade mold and some clamps. Those ingredients made my very first product - the Ray iPad Stand. Ciseal has been growing steadily ever since - supporting my design habit one bent plywood product at a time.
I proudly design and make all of my products by hand from sustainably-harvested wood in my Leonard, Michigan studio. Each Ciseal product is inspired by the beautiful state of Michigan, and thoughtfully vetted through countless hours of research, design, and crafting. The finished products I offer are the result of many iterations and fine tuning for comfort, usability, and style. The quality of my products is in the details: the intentional curves, the hand-layered, sustainable wood veneer, and the ease of use.
Ciseal is an Irish Gaelic word for layer. It's pronounced KISH-ill by the Irish, but I've taken to pronouncing it sis-EEL
Woodlayering is my craft, but as a person, I'm always learning, growing, and evolving. Ciseal is about how we layer the trappings of life in a way that uniquely speaks to our soul. It’s a way of life, a mindset that focuses our attention on finding and embracing all of the layers that matter so that we are free to take our pleasure seriously.
