I found this piece of Moss Agate at a rock and gem show years ago and really don't know it's origen, The seller didn't know either. There are many different types of this mineral. This is a nice specimen with beautiful color and patterns.The buckle is formed in the beveled edge design and the stone is mounted on my handmade german silver backing. This piece measures 3" by 2" and is a 1/4' in thickness. The backing is signed and dated along with the mineral's name and the buckle will fit a belt up to 1 1/2" width. German Silver is not silver but an alloy comprised of nickle,brass and zinc and the reasons I use it are that it is stronger,less costly and it doesn't tarnish like silver.

How it’s Made
I have been making my buckles for approximately 45 years. I cut shape and polish all my pieces and fabricate my belt buckle backings using German silver or as it's also called nickle silver. German silver is not silver but an alloy comprised of nickle,brass, and zinc and I use it because it is stronger,less expensive and it doesn't tarnish as does silver. All my buckles take around 20 different steps to complete and the one's with silver insets take many more steps.
