Meet the Maker

Hello and welcome to my handmade shop! My name is Sasha and I am the owner and creator of Hipster & Co. In my shop you will find handmade polymer clay pieces, such as earrings, hair pins, and key chains.

Hipster & Co didn't alway specialize in polymer clay accessories. In fact, back in 2015 when I opened my shop, I focused on sewn goods. Eventually polymer clay accessories slowly took over my shop and I realized that my creative vision for my business had changed. I loved how by simply changing up my accessories (whether it be the color, style, or size), I was able to easily change the looks I was going for. I wanted to share my creations with my customers and so Hipster & Co (the polymer clay version) was born.

I am my only employee and so you can be sure that every accessory in my shop was made by yours truly. :) My lovely husband and two kids lend a helping hand every now and then when boxes need to be taped up, orders taken to the post office, etc.

Besides running my own business, I work as a studio assistant for 2 other small businesses. I love sewing and so when I'm not sewing my own pieces, I am teaching young students the art of sewing. In my free time, you're sure to find me with my family...usually on a NYC adventure. We visit museums, restaurants, and just go for strolls down the city streets.

How it’s Made

I start off each earring by choosing the color clays that I will be using. I then work the clay to get it nice and smooth before rolling it in the clay machine to make it the thickness that I want. Using clay cutters, I stamp out each piece onto tiles and bake them in the oven. Depending on the style, I sometimes have to add gold flakes, paint, etc. before the pieces go into the oven. After the pieces are cooled off, it's time to sand down any rough edges, drill holes, and attach earring posts and jump rings.

Care Instructions:

It's very important to properly care for your polymer clay earrings in order for them to have long lasting life.

  • Polymer clay is very durable, but also easy to bend. Avoid bending earrings. This can cause an earring to snap.
  • Take polymer clay earrings off before showering or going into water.
  • When not wearing your earrings, store them in a dry area.
  • Over time, it is normal for hair products, skin care products, and/or makeup to build up on the earrings. This can stain polymer clay earrings. Simply wipe with a damp cloth. For tough to remove stains, it's okay to use a tiny bit of dish soap.
  • For all earrings with brass, tomato based products are a great way to remove tarnish! Products, such as ketchup, tomato paste, and tomato sauce contain an acid that works great to shine up darkened brass.

Shop Reviews (1)

I had my eye on these citron-colored pumpkins for a while and finally pulled the trigger on purchasing them. I'm so glad I did. So far, everywhere I wear them, I get compliments. They're super cute and lightweight.
