This stone is a beautiful, vibrant, stone, eye clean surrounded by 8 bright White conflict free Diamonds. The Sterling Silver setting has 4-2mm accent stone on each shoulder. Nice CT weight with lots of sparkle. Tanzanite is a one generation gemstone, it was found in the late 60's, in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the only place this amazing gemstone is found, and is now all but mined out. Tanzanite is the most deeply mined gemstone on Earth. I have the classic D-Bock Blue/Violet, Yellow(also known as Golden), Green, and Peacock(also known as Ocean, or Multi) colors here to choose from. My photography is not my best skill. Tanzanite is a trade name that was first used by Tiffany and Company for gem-quality specimens of the mineral zoisite with a blue color. Tiffany could have sold the material under the mineralogical name of "blue zoisite," but they thought the name "tanzanite" would stimulate customer interest and be easier to market. The name "tanzanite" was given because the world's only known tanzanite deposit of commercial importance is in northern Tanzania. The name reflects the gem’s limited geographic origin. The mines are all located in an area of about eight square miles in the Merelani Hills, near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro and the city of Arusha. The mineral zoisite naturally occurs in a wide range of colors that include colorless, gray, yellow, brown, pink, green, blue, and violet. The name "tanzanite" is used for a color variety of zoisite that ranges from blue to bluish purple to bluish violet. Typically gorgeous blues and bluish-purples, Tanzanite also comes in extremely rare and highly collectable fancy colors: Golden, Green, Lilac and Peacock (blue and green). Tanzanite’s different colors are due to the amount and ratio of chromium and vanadium, and the major value determinates for this gemstone are rare/beautiful fancy colors and cutting quality. Tanzanite is a challenging gemstone for the lapidary because of the orientation of crystals due to trichroism (three colors and their intensity change when viewed from different angles) and in the case of Peacock Tanzanite, the orientation of crystals for a blend of colors. As a high transparency and an absence of inclusions are signature characteristics of Tanzanite, optimal lapidary with a good brilliance and eye-clean clarity, the highest quality clarity grade for colored gemstones, are key quality considerations for this gemstone. Tanzanite’s rare fancy colors are highly coveted by collectors, but their supply is limited due to geological scarcity. If regular colored Tanzanite is “a thousand times rarer than Diamonds”, how many more times rarer are these fancy colors? Golden, Green, Lilac and Peacock Tanzanite are some of the few gemstones that are entirely natural and not enhanced.
