About this Product
This felted butterfly was needle felted with a single barbed needle using wool as the "paint". This could be hung on a wall or displayed on a table. It was felted on a wool felt sheet and framed in a 4" hoop. This is the perfect decoration for any home, especially the butterfly or flower lover! Check out my shop and website to see more!
Mariella Felts
Meet the Maker
Hi there! I'm Mariella! Thank you for visiting my shop! I create beautiful custom needle felted portraits of pets and other subjects that are near and dear to me! Anyone can own a painting of their pet, but not everyone has a realistic wool felted "painting"! I use a barbed needle as a brush and wool as my paint!
Needle felting is a very meditative art form. Using a barbed needle, small amounts of different color wool are poked into a background material. I use either linen or wool felt sheets. Layer upon layer colors are added to give depth and texture. Most of my work is pet portraits. I use a photo (pet owner’s choice) to create a wool rendition of their beloved pet.
I started needle felting in 2018 when I learned about the art form. My first attempt was to make a family of owl figures. I then graduated to bunnies and sheep. After about two years, I found the 2D technique of “painting” with wool and I haven’t looked back.
It really is very heartwarming to hear the reactions of the recipients of my portraits. A good amount of my portraits are memorial based and those are the most heartfelt!
I also “paint” other subjects such as birds and seasonal items which are ready to purchase pieces. Visit my shop often to see new additions!
I hope you enjoy looking at my work and I look forward to working with you to make a truly unique and special portrait of your pet! Let me portray your beloved pet using the unique art of needle felting!
