The Nike of Samothrace is considered one of the most admired artworks in the world and prime example of a Hellenistic masterpiece. This listing is for a hand signed, archival fine art reproduction of my travel artwork sketch of the infamous statue in the Paris Louvre the Winged Nike of Samothrace.
While in Paris, I carried around a sketch book and camera with me everywhere I went.
There aren't words to describe how I felt when I got to see her in person. I'd waited my entire life for that moment, but I wasn't ready. Even though I had studied her in books and slides in art history classes for years, the second I walked into the grand hall leading up to her was nothing short of majestic. I literally sat and wept for several minutes while I soaked in her energy, then hurriedly sketched her as I tried to stay out of the crowds. If you ever get a chance to visit her, I can't recommend it enough. If you go, you'll notice the walls are not green, that was the energy I felt coming from her. A vibrant energy of life and expansion.
My hope is that this print is a modern votive that calls in victory to the viewer. It's perfect for any Louvre or mythology lover, whether it's decorating a study or sacred space.
These museum quality watercolor prints are my absolute favorite, as they look so much like the original paintings, right down to the tooth of the cold press watercolor paper.
