This is Nine Men's Morris, considered to be one the single oldest board games known to exist. The games origin is a bit of a mystery but we know it dates to at least the Roman Empire and likely long before that. The game migrated all over history, finding itself in Egypt, as well as Rome but peaked in popularity in Medieval England and Scotland.
This beautiful game is hand made by me and is done in a classic Celtic style. There are a variety of fine woods used, including birch, maple, African padauk and mahogany. The board measures twelve inches square and comes with 18 playing pieces and instructions for play.
