Meet the Maker

Hello and welcome! I’m Evelyn Goldman (she/her), the artist behind Romance and Mishegoss.

My art is all about storytelling, tradition, and joy. I create papercut art that weaves together Jewish heritage, personal meaning, and communal celebration. Every design starts with a hand-drawn sketch, which I digitize and cut with a machine—but the magic really happens in the finishing touches I do by hand. I use eco-friendly, archival materials to make art that is both rooted in tradition and alive in the present.

You can also find my pieces at the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in New Orleans.

How it’s Made

Each piece begins as a detailed digital drawing, inspired by the natural beauty and historic landmarks of North Carolina. The design is then machine-cut from crisp white archival paper for precision, then hand-finished to ensure every delicate detail—from the dogwood blossoms to the squirrels—is clean, detailed, and intact.

Every step is completed by me in my home studio, with attention to quality, care, and craftsmanship.
