The
scientific names for the 3 species of peafowl are Pavo
cristatus (Blue peafowl/Indian peafowl, this is the species
most westerners are familiar with); Pavo muticus
(Green peafowl); and Afropavo congensis (Congo
peafowl/African peafowl/mbulu).

Welcome to Beadwork By Melissa! I have been doing beadwork in some form or another since I was a child stringing seedbeads onto sewing thread and using a safety pin for a clasp. I love beads because they give me a chance to explore so many creative experiences. Jewelry is not just visual, but textural, auditory, and emotional as well. How does it feel against your skin when you wear it? Do long earrings tickle your bare shoulders? Does a bracelet glide up and down your arm? Does a necklace nestle your collarbone? Do earrings gently jingle just inside of your hearing? Does a necklace make you feel confident? Do you have a lucky bracelet? Do you wear your mom's favorite pair of earrings? So many of our senses and awareness can be linked to a specific piece of jewelry.
I draw inspiration from the entire world around me for my creations. As a naturalist I love to incorporate elements and themes inspired by nature. As a renaissance festival performer I look to historical images to inspire jewelry that is appropriate for specific time periods for costuming as well as daily wear. But anything can be a source for a new idea and I am continuously fascinated by all the endless opportunities to create a new design.

All items are shipped USPS First Class. Any other services will be charged extra, and must be noted by the buyer and payment received before shipping occurs.
General listed items will be shipped within 5 business days of order completion. Seller is not responsible for delays in shipping once the item has been shipped. Seller is not responsible for incorrect addresses provided by buyer. Seller is not responsible for stolen packages or for damage caused by mishandling from shipper or buyer.
Custom orders will be shipped after final payments and within a timeframe agreed upon by the seller and the buyer. Seller is not responsible for delays in shipping once the item has been shipped. Returns on general listed items are generally not allowed, unless damage is noted upon immediate inspection upon receipt of the item and seller is contacted immediately. Item may not have been worn or otherwise handled after removal from packaging, except to inspect for damage and taking photos of said damage. Seller reserves right to refuse any and all return requests. Shipper is responsible for all damages caused by improper handling during shipping.
Returns on custom orders are not accepted.
In general, jewelry is not exceptionally durable. Please don't tug/pull on your jewelry, or otherwise use force with it. Most jewelry can be gently cleaned at home, but if you are unsure, please bring your items to a professional for cleaning.
Custom orders are cheerfully accepted with a down payment of 50%, with final payment due upon a pre-arranged date or occurrence (as agreed upon by both parties). Orders will not begin until down payment is received, and items may be sold elsewhere if final payment is not received by the agreed upon date/occurrence, with no refund of down payment. Should a delay occur in receiving the down payment, this may change the final date of completion.
