About this Product

This sweet and swirly orange Rosarita heart is surrounded by a fine silver serrated bezel and topped with a hand cast sterling silver flame. It is hand stamped and patina was added for depth and interest. It hangs from an 18" inch sterling silver chain with a lobster clasp. Rosarita is a unique by-product of the gold refining processes from the 1960s and 1970s. Alaskan beach sand was smelted for its gold content and the slag by-product was Rosarita, which is essentially a gold-infused glass. When gold ore was heated, the gold sank and the remaining minerals solidified into these beautiful, bright red, glass-like stones. Please note that this is handmade item using natural and/or recycled materials and, as such, may contain minor imperfections. That's the beauty of not buying mass-produced jewelry, though -- you get a one-of-a-kind piece! All of my sterling silver pieces are packaged in their own organza bag and have a silver polishing cloth included. Enjoy!

Meet the Maker

Hi! I'm Wendy. Sterling silver and turquoise remind me of my childhood. I come from a cowboy family and my dad and maternal grandfather competed in rodeos all around the West. I loved the silver cowgirl jewelry that my mom, grandmothers, and aunts all wore and am darn lucky to have some of those vintage pieces in my personal collection.

As a jewelry designer, those memories infuse my own creations. You'll see a lot of turquoise pieces here at oaktownwendy, but I love working with all the stones that nature provides (and a few man-made ones, too). Sustainability is important to me and I strive to include recycled elements in many of my designs: recycling my own silver scraps into decorative embellishments; using broken china plates as well as surfite and fordite "stones" that are byproducts of other manufacturing processes; and turning well-loved cowboy belts into brand new cowgirl earrings and bracelets.

Come on in and look around!
