How it’s Made
Creating an original acrylic painting involves a blend of skill, creativity, and high-quality materials. Here’s a detailed look into the process and materials I use to bring each artwork to life:
1. Choosing the Canvas
Material: I use flat board canvases, which provide a sturdy surface that is less prone to warping compared to traditional stretched canvases.
Preparation: Each canvas board is prepped with a layer of gesso, ensuring a smooth and even surface that enhances the adherence and vibrancy of the acrylic paints.
2. High-Quality Paints
Golden Fluid Acrylics: I use Golden Fluid Acrylics for all my paintings. Known for their high pigment load and smooth consistency, these paints offer excellent color saturation and a beautiful finish.
Pigment Quality: The pigments in Golden Fluid Acrylics are finely ground, providing superior coverage and a rich, vibrant color that doesn’t fade over time.
Consistency: The fluid consistency of these paints allows for easy blending and layering, enabling the creation of intricate details and smooth gradients.
3. The Creative Process
Sketching: Each painting begins with a detailed sketch on the prepared canvas. This initial drawing helps in planning the composition and placement of elements.
Layering Paint: Using Golden Fluid Acrylics, I build up layers of color. The quick-drying nature of acrylics allows for rapid layering without long wait times.
Base Layer: A base layer of complementary colors is applied first. This underpainting peeks through subsequent layers, adding depth and interest.
Main Layers: Subsequent layers are applied to develop the main forms and details. The high pigment concentration in Golden Fluid Acrylics ensures vibrant colors with each stroke.
Textures and Details: To add texture and dimension, I use various techniques such as glazing, stippling, and dry brushing. The fluidity of the paints allows for smooth transitions and fine detail work.
Finishing Touches: Once the main painting is complete, I add final touches to enhance highlights, shadows, and intricate details, ensuring the piece has a polished and cohesive look.
4. Framing
Fit for Frames: The flat board canvas is designed to fit beautifully in standard frames, making it easy for collectors to display the artwork. Whether in a minimalist frame or an ornate one, the sturdy board ensures the painting remains in pristine condition. Frames are not included.
5. Varnishing
Protection: A final varnish is applied to protect the painting from dust, UV rays, and other environmental factors. This step enhances the colors and gives the artwork a finished look, ensuring its longevity.
