Meet the Maker
Fiber arts is my healthy addiction - it allows me to play, de-stress, and socialize - all at the same time. I also get to have a lot of pretty things and power tools. It doesn't get much better than that!!
Everything is handmade in my home studio, located in Northwest Indiana.
How it’s Made
Ice dyeing is a process that allows stunning organic water color effects to be created on natural fabric.
The true beauty of this technique is that you have to give up any
preconceived notions of what your piece will look like once
washed and dried, and trust the process.
The dye powder is made up of different color particles that when
applied in different ways, break and split and blend to create a
one of a kind color palette on each and every piece of fabric.
Recently, I wanted to combine my love of painting with my habit
of trying to ice dye anything and everything I can.
Once a shirt is ice dyed, washed and dried, I look at each to decide
if it has a 'feel' to it, like woodsy, or water, or spring. I then hand paint,
using a stencil, a design that suits the colorway to create a unique
piece of wearable art.
