How it’s Made
After selecting the right shape oyster shell, it is soaked in a vinegar bath to remove any algae and saltwater buildup from the shell exterior. The shell bottom is ground down to sit properly on the glass pebble feet, and the shell hinge is touched up with black, brown, and white paint. Each decoupage image is hand-cut out and applied to the shell interior one at a time. Unlike most decoupage oyster shells, the shell interior is left unpainted, so the natural shell finish is visible. After applying several coats of resin, to protect the decoupage and enhance the shell's natural colors, the oyster shell ring or trinket dish is complete.
