About this Product

This specialty leash is called the Freedom Leash because I designed it to walk rescue dogs, giving them some freedom from their kennels. I needed the security of two leashes. Anyone who had double leashed dogs knows what a hassle this is. This design provides the security of two leashes, while only handling one. There's a lot going on with this incredibly unique design. It is a slip lead with a safety to attach to your dog's collar. There is also a stay close, or traffic handle. I've added an additional D-ring for the safety to accommodate different size dogs.

This lead is 80" when completely laid out. It is rose pink and tan with a dark brown safety and traffic handle.

All items are woven by hand with love from Commercial Type III 550 Paracord. These handmade leashes not only look cool but are designed to last for years.  For those not familiar with 550 Paracord, it is very durable and strong. The 550 means it is tested to 550 lbs of pull strength. Leashes will hold up to very strong and feisty dogs - I've tested all my designs while walking dogs at a local German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois rescue, my last German Shepherd, and my pet sitting clients.

Leashes are reinforced with King Cobra stitches by the handle and I'm careful about seam placement, so there aren't any weak spots.  I use high quality, heavy duty hardware. The safety has 3/4" heavy duty swivel snap hooks. The D-rings are 1" welded and the O-ring for the slip lead is 1/4" welded.  All items are washable either by hand or in mesh bag in a gentle cycle in a washing machine.  Air dry only.

Meet the Maker

This Way or That Way? Leash Company is owned and operated by me, Heather. It all started a few years ago, when my ex and I decided we were ready for a big change. Initially, we planned to section hike the entire Arizona Trail. We sold or gave away nearly everything we owned, rented out the house, and set off for adventure on the AZT. After that, we had no plan. The name ‘This Way or That Way?’ came from a couple things - the fact that our adventure kept taking unexpected turns, evolving into more of an ‘Exploring the Southwest’ adventure, taking us beyond Arizona to Utah, New Mexico, and Texas. Also, if given the opportunity, that’s how dogs walk, letting their noses lead them ‘this way or that way.’

Making custom paracord dog gear began as a hobby and something to do during quiet days at camp. I’ve always enjoyed making things with my hands, whether it be crafts, cooking, or gardening. Growing up I would help my Mom make crafty stuff to sell at shows or help with her stained glass projects. I loved helping my Dad in his woodshop. I enjoy the smell of sawdust to this day because it reminds me of that special time with him. I’ve enjoyed various crafty hobbies over the years and was quickly hooked by weaving and braiding and knotting paracord. I made so many things for Baron, then for all my friends dogs. Gradually, others began to ask me for custom work and a business was born.

The same thing has happened with pet sitting. Word of mouth and more and more referrals have led me to add this as a second business, which I absolutely love. Before paracord and dog sitting, my background is diverse: retail at various levels, management in the corporate world, sales, and business ownership

I am now on my own and really grateful to be making a living doing what I love. I do still volunteer for a local rescue specializing in German Shepherd Dogs and Belgian Malinois. I’m active in the outdoors and enjoy hiking, camping, and backpacking as much as I can.
