Meet the Maker
My Grandma Effie made clothes for her 11 school children in the 1920's, and made my high school prom dress in the 1950's! So I grew up surrounded by fabric. I could see every day the magic being created on her old Singer treadle machine. In spite of that, I didn't start sewing until well into my 40's. I've always been a cut-it-apart and put-it-back-together kind of person, but Grandma was going to be a tough act to follow. I now understand her amazing "natural" talent was a genius built from necessity, practice and imagination. I am mostly self-taught (like Grandma). But I am also a licensed Martha Pullen Heirloom Sewing instructor. Martha's licensing course opened my eyes to classic heirloom sewing techniques that I incorporate in many of my designs. I'm also a Lifetime Member of the Dressmaking Academy, where I learned to sew custom corsets and gorgeous special occasion dresses. In my small fabric-stuffed loft in Tucson, AZ, I read, train and breathe in daily the art of creating fine clothing. Now that I have years of experience under the hood, I look forward to sharing that practical magic here on GoImagine!
How it’s Made
There are three basic steps to making a garment: choice of design, choice of fabric and choice of construction techniques. Sounds simple, doesn't it? But within those three steps are a myriad of side roads. A final design is reached through decisions about shape, size, ease, style. Fabric is chosen based on quality, durability, sustainability, beauty, price. Construction is partly physical but mostly mental--the wrong decisions here can make even the loveliest design a disaster. All of these steps are taken by me, one unique garment at a time, right here in my Tucson, Arizona studio.

Because They are One of a Kind:
The items you see in my listings are ready-to-ship originals with size and color as shown. If it is something you love, but is the wrong size or color, contact me. If I can make another one, I'll let you know. There will be times when I cannot recreate it. If you have any questions about availability or alternative design, let me know what you're looking for and I'll tell you how we can get there.
Each item listed will include the actual measurements of that garment. The item description will indicate if fit is meant to be skin-tight, as in a stretch performance fabric. Otherwise, please remember to allow for some wearing "ease" when assessing for the wearer's body size.
Etc.:
My items do not have a "standard price." Each item's sale price reflects the cost of materials and construction detail. If I have found a great fabric for a great price, I will pass that bargain on to you!
What do I charge for a custom? The same price it would be if it were NOT a custom--there is no up-charge for a perfect fit. Changes in final cost only happen with changes in materials or construction details. A heavily blinged-up costume will cost more than the same item without stones, for instance.
I am an honest, common-sense person and I know exceptions exist to policies. I promise to do what is right for both of us.
