About this Product

This instant digital download pattern contains easy-to-follow instructions to crochet the Sock Guy Beanie.

Sock or fingering yarn creates a lightweight beanie to stuff in your pocket to have handy. This classic style is updated with a wide band of narrow texture stripes. A slightly heavier version of Sock Guy can be made in sport-weight yarn.

This beanie has a bit of slouch on the mannequins, but that’s because they have short-ish heads. The depth of this hat will be a standard beanie fit on most men; however, the pattern also includes instructions for a longer hat with slouch.

The pattern offers four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large with head circumferences of 21, 22, 23, 24 in./53, 56, 58, 61 cm.

YARN:
The Sock Guy requires from 180 to 208 yd./165 to 190 m of either Sock/Fingering Weight (#1 Super Fine) OR Sport Weight (#2 Fine) yarn. This design uses a looser gauge than normal for sock/fingering-weight yarn -- 20 dc = 4 in./10 cm -- to create a light, drapey beanie. For sport-weight yarn, this is a recommended gauge and creates a firm fabric with good body.

WHAT YOU GET:
A 5-page PDF pattern that also provides links to my website -- www.hatsbyelvee.com -- for technique tutorials and stitch definitions for new crocheters. The written instructions use American crochet terms.

Meet the Maker

The Chunky Guy Beanie, pictured here, is my best-selling pattern, with hundreds sold to makers from around the world.  The pattern exemplifies what I love most about crochet and knitting: An easy pattern can produce a classic look as well as an enjoyable crafting experience.

Almost all of my patterns use simple, basic stitches.  I occasionally venture into intermediate territory -- but only if the end result is worth the extra effort.

One of my favorite activities is to round up a few balls of yarn and experiment with stitches and shapes and color combinations.  It's an adventure to find out what kind of hat the yarn wants to be.  A sassy, lacy Juliet cap for summer?  A rugged, ribbed topper for frigid days?  A snazzy fedora that evokes vintage glamor?

I really enjoy doing my small part in bringing warmth and beauty into the world, one hat at a time.  My wish is that you enjoy making/wearing/gifting hats from my patterns as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Happy crocheting/knitting!
