About Phillis Wheatley:
Phillis Wheatley, born around 1753 in West Africa, was brought to America as a slave at a young age. Despite the hardships she faced, Phillis became the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry. Her work, "Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral," garnered international acclaim. Wheatley's poetry often reflected her experiences and her profound Christian faith.
"Imagination! Who can sing thy force? / Or who describe the swiftness of thy course?" - Phillis Wheatley
Ideal for those who want to inspire others to be strong, resilient, and accomplish their dreams, this card is perfect for birthdays, graduations, special occasions, or as a thoughtful token of encouragement.
Paper Tailor Designs
Meet the Maker
Hi! Paper Tailor Designs is all about imagination, encouragement, and friendship. I am exploring how to combine paper dolls, greeting cards, and art in general to bring more beauty and encouragement to this world.
I'm so excited to share my paper doll greeting cards with you, along with my other artwork. There are so many things that inspire and encourage me and I hope that through my art you also will be encouraged!
My love of paper dolls began as a seven year old child finding treasure in a used book store: a Tom Tierney paper doll book. I saved my pennies for a month to come back and buy it. The passion has never left. Coming from an artistic family it was only a matter of time before I began tracing dresses and then drawing my own dolls. I went to school to become a Veterinary Technician and practiced for 9 years before our children were born, but paper dolls were always in the background. I drew them as stress relief after a hard day, as appreciation for a good book, as a way to stretch my creativity. I have stacks and stacks of papers covered in dolls, dresses, and ideas for dolls.
How it’s Made
Phillis Wheatley has been one of my favorite historical figures since I was a child. It was a pleasure to research and designs herself and her outfits for this set. I used Procreate to bring her to life.
