About this Product
Pietersite is a mineral found in China and Namibia and is classified as a rare gem because of it only being found in these two places. This stone has very nice chatoyancy because of the tigers-eye appearing through out the stone. I have married six different pieces of varying colors and formed it in the cabochon style This buckle measures 2 1/8" by 3 1/8" and is 1/4" in thickness. The stone is mounted on my handmade German Silver backing which is signed, dated and has the stones name. Note that German Silver is not silver but an alloy comprised of nickle, brass and zinc. I use it because it is stronger, less expensive and it doesn't tarnish as does silver.

How it’s Made
I have been making my buckles for approximately 45 years. I cut shape and polish all my pieces and fabricate my belt buckle backings using German silver or as it's also called nickle silver. German silver is not silver but an alloy comprised of nickle, brass, and zinc and I use it because it is stronger, less expensive and it doesn't tarnish as does silver. All my buckles take around 20 different steps to complete and the one's with silver insets take many more steps.
