How it’s Made

This was the first "kidlit" illustration I ever did. It features a mouse, holding up a poppy. I loved this image so much! I used it as the landing page for my website for a very very long time. It was also the first time I started playing with texture layers in Procreate, trying to achieve that feeling of "authenticity" and "traditional art" that was so popular in a lot of children's books in the recent past. Using digital art to appear traditional is a skill. Lemme tell ya. A skill.

But regardless, I fell in love with the sentiment this image has. It feels hopeful, genuine, & powerful to me. It is both optimistic for the future and reverent about the past, and I may be applying too much of the memorial symbolism that is inherent with the Poppy flower in some cultures.

This image was started in 2020, and took 2223 paint strokes in Procreate to finish. It took 3 hours and 11 minutes of time.

After receiving an order, I print these cards individually in my own studio using my own Canon Pixma Pro 200 printer, which has 8 colors and really makes the hues and details and textures in this piece come alive! I then package them up and send them to you!

Shop Reviews (1)

I purchased a set of waterfall cards from Coreyartus Imagery, but I don’t plan to use them as greetings; I actually purchased them to use in my personal meditation practice. When I saw Corey’s waterfall scenes, I fell in love with their ability to transport me into a different world. They’re even more beautiful in person. I’m really pleased with this purchase as well as the great customer service and thoughtful packaging by Corey. Such a wonderful shop to buy from!
