Everyone's got that one unforgettable teacher from grade school who turned every day into an adventure. For me, it was my fourth grade teacher. His classroom was a mini zoo, with insects and small animals scattered all over. One morning, I arrived to find a baby praying mantis chilling on my desk. Mini mantises were everywhere! For weeks, we had to be extra careful where we sat or moved our books. It’s one of my fondest memories of school. May this Mantis Pottery Mug bring you as much joy as that memory brings me.

Meet the Maker
My journey with clay has been a lifelong adventure. Even after four decades, I still feel a rush of excitement every time I open the kiln lid. The clay experiment is always ongoing, from the initial concept on paper to construction and glaze testing. I never stop learning and discovering the diversity of this medium. Ceramics remains my pathway to innovation, all while honoring its centuries-old traditions.
Right now, I’m working with cone 6 stoneware, using both hand-building and wheel-thrown techniques. I love experimenting with different colored clay bodies and textures to enhance the interest of glaze colors.
Teapots, both functional and nonfunctional, are a particular fascination of mine. Their incredible lines and movement remind me of the human form, and I find endless inspiration in their design.
