Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.
How it’s Made
Each ghost luminary is hand-built from clay slabs, then carefully textured with botanical-inspired patterns. Star cutouts are carved to allow light to shine through, and the ghost’s face and features are sculpted individually, ensuring no two are alike. A small pumpkin is shaped and added for a festive touch before the piece undergoes its first bisque firing. Afterward, multiple layers of glaze are applied to highlight the creamy robe, orange pumpkin, and shimmering blue-gray hat. Finally, the piece is glaze-fired at 2300°F, making it durable, functional, and ready to glow with a tealight candle inside.
