Meet the Maker
Hello and welcome to my corner of Go Imagine!
After my crisis counselor shifts, I always looked for ways to decompress after my shifts. I found fluid art painting through YouTube and it brought a sense of ease and calm so I could fall asleep. I started dabbling in this art last summer and it has been so fulfilling and joyful, such a release. Friends and family know how important mental health awareness is to me and I wanted to share that through my art. If I can bring joy and peace to anyone with this art that playfully flows across the canvas, that fills my soul.
Thank you for visiting,
Angie
How it’s Made
To create Purple Cosmos, I used the flip cup technique, a dynamic acrylic pouring method. I started by mixing several shades of purple, white, and black with a pouring medium to ensure the paints would flow smoothly. Each paint mixture included a few drops of silicone oil to encourage the formation of bubble-like cells, which is key to the textural effect in the painting.
Once the paints were ready, I layered them into a single cup, stacking the purples on top of each other without fully mixing. After flipping the cup upside down onto the canvas and lifting it, the colors flowed out in organic, fluid shapes. The interaction between the silicone oil and the paint created the intricate cellular patterns that give the piece its cosmic feel.
I then spun and tilted the canvas to spread the paint across the surface, allowing the colors to blend in unexpected ways and form more cells. To further enhance this effect, I used a torch to heat the paint, which caused the silicone oil to rise and expand the cells even more, adding depth and texture to the piece. After that, I let the painting dry, revealing a rich, vibrant composition that resembles a swirling nebula in space.
