About this Product
This is a fun, small cross-stitch chart for a beginner to practice cross-stitching or anyone wanting a quick stitch. With just four colors, you can get creative and change the colors to your preferences. As to finishing ideas, you could frame it, create a pin-cushion, a biscornu, a holiday greeting card, or even use it as a patch for your mending! To see how to make this pattern into a biscornu, go to my Instagram account @ancientsagedesigns and check out the "reels" section. You can see step by step how I made this into a biscornu pincushion. This geometric, floral cross-stitch pattern is inspired by ancient Egyptian mosaic glass inlay tiles. The original artifacts date from the 1st to the 3rd-century Roman period. This pattern is named "Queen Zenobia's Garden" for the queen who ruled the Roman colony of Palmyra in present-day Syria, from 267 to 272 A.D., the same period during which the tiles were made. Queen Zenobia's empire stretched from modern-day Iraq across Türkiye, and down through Egypt.

Meet the Maker
Hello and welcome to Ancient Sage Designs!
I am Shazeeda, the embroidery designer and owner of this little shop. Many generations removed from the Indian subcontinent, I am from ‘the land of many waters’, Guyana in South America. Not knowing where my Indian ancestors came from, I am drawn to the artifacts in museums that have been displaced from their native homelands. I am inspired by centuries-old architectural tiles, ceramics, and textile patterns.
Drawing from the artistry of the Ottoman, Mughal, Mauryan, Roman, and Egyptian empires, I love transforming ancient and natural patterns into cross-stitch embroidery charts and crafting the models you see in this shop's product listings. I enjoy showcasing the beauty of our world's cultural and natural histories through embroidery art.
Most of all, I love designing and cross stitching because it allows me to slow down and focus. I am excited to offer these patterns to you so that you can also enjoy stitching these beautiful, historical, and natural designs.

How it’s Made
My patterns are created from the inspiration that I get from patterns that I find in our world's museums or in our natural environment. I personally model stitch each pattern as I enjoy the stitching process and believe it is important to test stitch to ensure a high quality pattern. Some patterns take a month or two to design, and sometimes, months to stitch depending on how quickly I can stitch them and how big they are. I know all cross stitchers can appreciate this. Our hobby is a labor of love whether we are stitching a pattern for ourselves or as a gift for a loved one. The art of embroidery and especially cross-stitching is a wonderful craft to get us to slow down and watch something beautiful emerge with time using needle, thread, and fabric. I hope you love the designs that I create and will enjoy stitching them.
Peace and happy stitching,
Shazeeda
