Meet the Maker

I create durable one of a kind crocheted rag rugs by up-cycling clean vintage fabrics that may be machine washed. Rag rugs are my creative passion. I take the time to do my very best work with each and every one, paying close attention to detail because I like all transactions to be honest and fair whether I am buying or selling. Trying to do my small part in not adding more fabrics to our earths landfills and oceans. I work with 100% reclaimed, recycle cotton/poly blend fabrics that are available to me in my area of southern Missouri.  This is one of the creative skills that has been passed down from generation to generation.

How it’s Made

I scout locally for used cotton/poly blend fabrics [mostly sheets] that I buy from businesses that use the sales money to benefit the community such as food panty, children's shelter homes and our small local hospital. [these are the ones that I frequent the most often] I hot wash and hot dry the treasures. remove hems and seams. I use scissors and hand cut into strips that I sew with a sewing machine, sewn end to end twice to ensure strength. I hand fold and roll into balls. When I have enough coordinating colors prepped, I crochet with the same hand carved hook that my mother crocheted her rugs with.

I wrap finished rug in plastic [also an up-cycle from a factory that closed here years ago] place in package or box, weigh, measure and list for sale. I do a happy dance when it sells and become motivated and inspired to begin the process all over again!
