About this Product

A simple little bouquet of red rosebuds to signify the beginning or the continuation of a romantic relationship. Red symbolizes true love, buds imply there is still much to come. These beautifully handcrafted flowers will last indoors indefinitely, so your thoughtfulness will be remembered for a long time. Also friendly to allergy sufferers and pets—a perfect way to say “I love you."

This is a three-stem bouquet. Each stem is approximately 19.5” long and includes a large bud (2” tall), a small bud (1.25” tall), and foliage—all ready for your bud vase. Stems may be bent to fit.

Caring for your crepe paper flowers and plants

  • Suitable for indoor use only.

  • NO water! It will damage the crepe paper permanently!

  • Place away from a window. Crepe paper may fade in direct sunlight.

  • Petals and leaves may be gently reshaped with your fingers, stems may be carefully bent to the positions you like. Stems may be cut with wire cutters, but simply bending them to fit your vase will leave more options for future use.

  • Surface colorings are non-toxic.

  • Use a hair dryer set on lowest/coolest setting to remove dust.

Meet the Maker

My dad always sent his business shirts to the cleaners. Each one came back neatly pressed and folded around a nice, flat piece of white cardboard, which he saved in a tidy stack. To me, those cardboards were gold. With blunt scissors, scotch tape and plenty of tenacity, I spent long, happy hours transforming them. My Barbie house became filled with furnishings like no other. My beloved model horses grazed contentedly, their corral flanked by miles (well, actually yards) of ranch-style fencing…and not one ever escaped.

The joys and challenges of those early projects never left me. Over the years, I’ve explored a multitude of materials. A BFA led to a career as a graphic designer. When my own daughters played with Barbie dolls, I made their furniture out of sturdier foam board, with hand-sewn cushions, of course.

My girls are grown now and I still love making things. My scissors are sharper, and my cutting skills have become quite precise. Paper flowers caught my attention several years back. Like the shirt cardboards of long ago, crepe paper is a raw material waiting to be transformed. Over several years, I diligently taught myself to coax realistic looking petal and leaf shapes from the malleable crepe, continually drawing from nature's endless supply of inspiration. I haven’t looked back.

Each flower is a hand-crafted work of art, requiring many hours. The completed blooms offer benefits over fresh flowers. They will last indefinitely with minimal care, never wilting, never dying. They are made of biodegradable materials. They are allergy free—your thoughtful gift won’t leave the recipient sneezing. And they never, ever need water, so they’re ideal for frequent travelers. Crepe paper flowers can bring joy to any home, office or event space, and make a lovely gift for almost any occasion.

How it’s Made

Fussy me, I take pride in handcrafting every flower and plant individually. Some flowers present with just a few petals, others have dozens, but even the seemingly simplest can take many hours to complete. My considerable attention to detail ensures the uniqueness of each—as in nature, no two will be exactly alike.

Each new flower type begins with research and experimentation with various paper weights and colors. This results in multiple prototypes testing shapes and sizes. Ultimately, premium Italian and German crepe papers come to life in my hands as the final version.

I hand color the papers as needed with the medium that will produce the desired effect—this might be ink, dye, paint, or even something from my kitchen. Every piece—petals, sepals, leaves, is precisely hand-cut. When possible, studying a live specimen is ideal. (Special thanks to my shamrock plant. Tracing those leaves was invaluable!)

Next comes gentle stretching, layering, folding, curling or twisting to coax the malleable paper into the shape and texture I’m after. Finally, I carefully position each component and secure it in place. A clear floral sleeve keeps flowers looking fresh, plants are carefully wrapped to safely make their journey to you.
