Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.
My work is all about joy—whimsical, functional pieces designed to be used and loved every day, yet crafted with the care and quality to last a lifetime.

How it’s Made
This Avett Brothers-inspired banjo mug begins with hand-rolled clay slabs, shaped and joined to create a sturdy, soulful form. The banjo is sculpted separately and carefully applied to the mug’s body, with each detail—strings, frets, and the words “Say Love”—carved and painted by hand. A textured roller adds depth and rhythm to the green base, while the rim is stamped with a vintage-style fan pattern for a touch of Southern flair. Oh! Of course, I am listening to the Avett Brothers while making this mug!
After drying, the mug is bisque fired in the kiln, then hand-painted with rich glazes that highlight every groove and note. A final glaze firing at over 2200°F seals the piece with a glossy finish, making it microwave and dishwasher safe — ready to accompany your favorite tune and favorite brew.
