Romance and Mishegoss

Meet the Maker
Hello and welcome! I’m Evelyn Goldman (she/her), the artist behind Romance and Mishegoss.
My art is all about storytelling, tradition, and joy. I create papercut art that weaves together Jewish heritage, personal meaning, and communal celebration. Every design starts with a hand-drawn sketch, which I digitize and cut with a machine—but the magic really happens in the finishing touches I do by hand. I use eco-friendly, archival materials to make art that is both rooted in tradition and alive in the present.
You can also find my pieces at the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in New Orleans.

How it’s Made
This papercut was designed to reflect the serenity and spiritual beauty of Shabbat candle lighting. Inspired by tradition, I created the silhouette of a woman in prayer and rendered it in high-quality, acid-free cardstock. Each piece is cut by machine for precision and then carefully hand-finished to ensure crisp edges and clean lines. It’s a modern, meaningful tribute to Jewish ritual, handmade with care.
