Who were the Shakers?
The Shakers who began their history in Manchester, England in the mid-18th century, practiced their beliefs in communities where members devoted themselves to work and worship. Shaker craftsmen and craftswomen incorporated their principles into their work: durability, simplicity, utility, perfection, grace. Their communal lifestyle freed them from the economic pressures of life experienced by craftsmen in the world; therefore, in such an atmosphere the finest work was expected and accomplished.

Handmade Shaker box and other Shaker Designs. I was inspired by the diligent hands of Shaker craftsmen years ago. I create the same traditional boxes, cupboards, trays, clocks, tables and more. I have mastered the same techniques used by these hardworking people to create timeless, serviceable wooden goods.
How it’s Made
Each Shaker Walnut Carrier is handcrafted using time-honored techniques inspired by original Shaker designs. The process begins with carefully selected walnut wood, chosen for its rich color, fine grain, and strength. The wood is hand-cut and shaped to precise dimensions, ensuring perfect balance and proportion.
The sides are gently bent and secured with traditional copper tacks, a hallmark of Shaker joinery that combines durability with elegant simplicity. The fixed handle is fitted securely by hand, offering both strength and comfort for carrying.
Once assembled, each carrier is hand-finished with a hand-rubbed oil varnish that enhances the natural beauty of the walnut while providing lasting protection. This colorless finish highlights the authentic grain and character of the wood—reflecting the Shakers’ appreciation for honest materials and pure craftsmanship.
