About this Product
Shiva shell (Shiva Eye) comes from the Operculum Snail, which can be found on the coasts of India, Thailand, and Australia. It is made up of calcium carbonate and aragonite, which form in the shell as it grows. It's primary purpose is to protect the snail inside, like a closed door. The spiral formed on the inner layer represents the lifeline of the snail. Fishermen and sailors referred to it as “Mermaid’s Money,” and believed it to be a protective talisman and symbol of good luck and prosperity.
This choker length necklace is 15" long on copper chain with a handcrafted hook clasp. The Shiva Eye is encased in a beautiful copper bezel.
Mielo Abelo Designs
Meet the Maker
Hi, I'm Melissa, the designer and maker behind this one-woman show I call Mielo Abelo Designs. I began beading in March 2018. My mother was turning 70, and my sister decided to throw her a Diva Party, and I decided I was going to make her a funky, sparkly necklace on a whim. I had no idea that whim was going to turn into a passion! What I love about this craft is that there is always something new to learn, and I love to learn and experiment and stretch my own boundaries.
After starting with basic bead stringing, I have learned how to incorporate wire and sheet metal into my jewelry projects, including creating my own earring wires. My handcrafted original jewelry designs include necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, using mostly natural stone, glass, and metal. I am not a metal smith, but I flame color, paint, ink, stamp, emboss, and shape metal to create interesting additions to my designs. I am fascinated by the process and the results, and try to stretch my own limits with my current skill level using the tools I have available.
I carefully consider the components that I use, choosing only high quality copper, 14kt gold, and Argentium silver to create my earrings wires. Most often, I use stainless steel chain, but I also do use rhodium and silver and gold plated. I make most of my clasps using German style wire that is tarnish resistant.
My goal is to offer affordable one of a kind jewelry while using quality components with a focus on workmanship. I craft each piece with that goal in mind. My design process takes time, which is why my item listings are limited.
I am open to collaborating with you on custom pieces. Reach out to me if you have ideas. If you're interested in seeing previous work that is no longer available, please visit my website at https://mieloabelo.com/ or follow the links to my social media.
I'd love to make my jewelry your jewelry.

Other Notes
My jewelry is not made for children or pets. My jewelry is not edible or food safe. My jewelry is not designed for continuous wear and should be removed while sleeping, showering/bathing, or swimming. Items made with air dry clay are sealed with a water resistant coating; however, they are not water proof and should be kept dry to avoid damage.
The wire I use for wrapping is generally plated and tarnish resistant; however, I do use Argentium silver wire for earring wires, which while formulated to resist tarnish, it, like all real silver, may tarnish. I also use Argentium and sterling silver findings, such as jump rings. Silver jewelry does need occasional polishing to keep it looking shiny and bright. The good news is, just a few wipes with a polishing cloth is all that's needed, and I include one with orders. I do not recommend chemical cleaning solutions on any items that include gemstones or on treated metal, such as metal that has been flame colored, patined, or painted.
